The Phoenix area could see its first 100-degree day for the year on Friday, along with strong winds but lower temperatures into the weekend.
The high temperature on Thursday was forecast to be just shy of 100, with Friday’s high forecast to hit around 100 degrees, according to Meteorologist Leslie Wanek of the National Weather Service.
On average, the year’s first triple-digit temperature comes sometime between the end of April and end of May.
The higher temperature on Friday is likely to be short-lived. A low pressure system was forecast to move in during the weekend, bringing strong winds and lower temperatures.
Wind speeds in the Valley could reach 30 to 35 mph Friday, bringing blowing dust. Areas up north could see wind speeds reach 30 mph and gusts as high as 48 mph, Wanek said. Winds were forecast to be lighter on Saturday and Sunday, reaching 25 mph in the Valley and up north.
The National Weather Service warns that the fire danger is likely to be high this weekend because of gusty winds and dry conditions. Wanek advised people going to the high country to be “exceptionally careful” this weekend.
The high temperature in the Valley on Saturday should be in the low 90s and drop to the mid- to upper 80s for Sunday, Wanek said. The Flagstaff area could see high temperatures in the mid-70s Friday and drop to the low 60s this weekend.
The high temperature for the Show Low area was forecast be in the low 80s Friday and in the mid- to low 70s Saturday and Sunday. AZ Central
